Thika Town MP Patrick Wainaina has called on police officers operating in his constituency to intensify security patrols in the area to arrest criminals vandalizing transformers.
This comes after the MP reinstalled a stolen transformer at Matathia primary school at Magogoni area.
The lawmaker said police officers should be vigilant to curb transformer theft cases which he said are on the rise in Thika Sub-County.
“Criminals stealing transformers and electricity cables should be arrested and prosecuted. We want electricity to run our businesses and light homes to keep off thieves who takes advantage of darkness to commit crime,” said the MP.
He said the recently launched street lighting projects will not be interfered with by anyone.
“Thika Sub County in the next few months will be a 24 hour economy because street lights will be installed across the constituency to enable traders to operate businesses late into the night uninterrupted.
"Anyone found interfering with street lights or destroying them will be dealt with accordingly,” he added.
He warned local youths against laxity and over-reliance on 'cheap and free things'.
