Thika MP Alice Ng’ang’a has introduced a feeding programme for over 500 National Youth Service (NYS) trainees who are currently conducting a cleaning and upgrading programme at Kiandutu slums in Thika.
Speaking on Tuesday in kiandutu during the launching of the feeding programme dubbed “Huduma Kitchen”, Ng’ang’a applauded devolution cabinet secretary (CS) Anne Waiguru for her support through the project that will facelift the informal settlements in Thika.
“I talked to Waiguru and she listened to my plea. She has now extended her support towards this project and the youths will be getting free food as they work. This is a very vital exercise as it is aimed at giving the town a new look. It will also go a long way in curbing diseases especially waterborne diseases,” she said.
Ng’ang’a also praised the youth for their commitment and hard work in the exercise.
She said the exercise has provided job opportunities to the youth in addition to raising hygiene standards in the town.
“I want to thank you for your persistent hard work and determination. You have been doing a good job and we look forward to rolling out such projects in all sub-counties,” said Ng’ang’a.
She added: “We have a chance to interact with each other as we work. I pledge my support to oversee the success of this noble project.”
