Residents of Kisiiki village in Kilimambogo are a happy lot after they received donations from Thika Town MP Eng Patrick Wainaina on Friday.
This is after a heavy downpour upstream displaced around 60 families and carried away their household stuff.
The MP donated beddings and foodstuffs where he was accompanied by the Kenya Red Cross, Thika branch.
Wainaina said that the donations would serve as a temporally relief to residents whose property got swept away by floodwaters.
“Owing to the displacement and destruction caused by floods, the disaster management department has launched disaster evaluations and assessments to establish a suitable response and recommend solutions on the same. All the victims can rest assured that we will offer help and solve this kind of seasonal problems," said Wainaina.
The MP added that the government is looking for long-term solutions to alleviate the residents' problems.
"No one should continue living on water paths. My team will offer iron sheets to the victims to reconstruct their houses; however, homes are not to be restructured in the watercourses. We want everyone to live on securer grounds,” he said.
The residents protested that the county government and legislators from previous administrations had hampered the proper procedures of distributing land.
Wajungle as he poplarly known, however, promised to ensure that the issue is re-looked and any irregularities found in the lands department will be resolved immediately.
