Thika MP Alice Ng’ang’a has revealed that plans are underway to start giving area Bodaboda and TukTuk operators loans.
Ng'ang'a said Thika Constituency in partnership with Kenya Commercial Bank has plans to empower the young entrepreneurs.
She said the bank will partner with bodaboda operators in the area to offer them loans to buy new motor bikes.
She said that previously the bank had partnered with Kiandutu slums based bodaboda operators who got a loan of Sh450,000 and the program was a success since they were able to boost their business in the area.
The legislator was speaking at Kimuchu Primary School on Wednesday where she noted that crime has reduced in the area.
"If we can manage to empower more people crime will go down fully," said Ng'ang'a.
She further said that the bodaboda and TukTuk operators in partnership with insurance company they will ensure all the new motorbikes bought would be insured and the owners given a basic training on how to manage their finances.
Speaking to the 2TKY Thika town Kiandutu Youth Association treasurer Joseph Mwangi explained that the bank was going to group them into three groups of 20 members each who would guarantee each other for easier management of the loan.
He revealed that the first group of operators have already been taken through the training and will soon start benefiting from the loan.
