Six murder suspects have been arraigned in a Thika court to answer to charges of robbery with violence and murder.
The six, John Ndung’u 27, Moses Karanja 27, Michael Kamau 33, Titus Musembi 26, Fredrick Waiganjo 29 and Maigua Martin 24 all from Thika West sub-district appeared before the chief magistrate Stephen Mbugi on Tuesday and pleaded not guilty.
Thika deputy OCPD Mary Kiarie of Thika police station, who appeared before the packed court as a witness, narrated to the court how the six were arrested on Monday in Majengo slums.
The six are said to have killed a business man in Majengo business apartment two months ago and had since gone into hiding.
The chief prosecutors, Nancy Muthuri, further revealed that all the six suspects are allegedly drug addicts and were all reportedly under the influence of bhang on the day of arrest.
The deputy OCPD produced a spear, a fake pistol, six needles and three pangas as exhibits.
The six requested the judge to withdraw the case claiming that the case had no basis and that no real witnesses were brought before court to reveal they have been terrorising Thika residents.
In response to their request, the prosecutor asked the court to consider the exhibits provided and make a ruling on that basis.
The six will remain in police custody for ten days until witnesses record their statements.
The exhibits were handed over to the police.
Their case will resume on June 29, 2015.
