Thika’s Kiandutu NYS workers have decried graft allegations against the leadership of the programme, citing favouritism in job allocation.
This comes as more than 600 workers were dismissed without notice and payment and others employed under unknown conditions.
According to one of the women from Witeithie who sought anonymity, the workers from Kiganjo, Makongeni and Witeithie have been dismissed and told to seek for a new contract from the NYS director, who is unavailable in the area.
She said that there is a group of women, who were hired on August 24, 2015 when the rest were told that their contract had expired and therefore told to go home until they get a new contract.
The women have further revealed that they have not received their payment since April and their savings are under custody of an officer who is unwell and under critical condition.
“Our supervisor, Mr James Nderitu, is so unwell and he cannot talk. He is the one holding the records of our savings and now that we have been dismissed from job we cannot get the money,” the women said emotionally.
An attempt to speak to the current supervisor, Nazaria Wawira, bore no fruits. The women are set to demonstrate towards Thika MP’s office where they expect her to address the matter.
