Speaking yesterday after a man was knocked down by a car along the highway, Maithya said that caution should be exercised by pedestrians and drivers.

“I urge pedestrians using all roads to be very careful during this festive season to avoid accidents,” said Maithya.

Maithya said that the pedestrians should obey traffic rules when using roads.

“Pedestrians should use footpaths set aside instead of walking at the centre of the roads,” said Maithya.

He said that many road accidents could be avoided if pedestrians respected the road rules.

“Road rules are the ones governing road users and pedestrians should respect them,’ said Maithya.

He also urged drivers especially those plying the busy Thika - Nairobi Highway to be extra careful.

“The Thika - Nairobi Highway has been witnessing busy flow of pedestrians and vehicles during this festive season and I urge drivers to be very careful to safe the lives of passengers,” said Maithya.

Maithya attributed reckless driving by drivers under the influence of alcohol as the major cause of road accidents.

The body of the road accident victim was taken to Thika Level 5 mortuary.
