The robbers allegedly hijacked the vehicle at Witeithie shopping centre on Tuesday night.

According to the driver of the matatu, the robbers boarded the matatu at the city centre posing as passengers.

However when the matatu reached Gatitu trading centre, one of the robbers pulled a pistol and ordered the driver to stop.

The hijackers then robbed passengers of their belongings which included money and mobile phones before vanishing into the Kiandu slums.

A police officer leading the investigation told this writer that no one has been arrested in connection to the incident. He however said that they are following crucial evidence that will see the culprits arrested.

“We have not arrested anyone but we have information on the whereabouts of the criminals,” he said.

The officer asked matatu drivers and conductors to screen the passengers boarding their vehicles to curb such incidents.

He indicated that cases of matatus being hijacked and passengers robbed are on the rise saying law enforcers will up their game to tame such incidents.

No one was injured or killed in the robbery hijack incident.
