Politicians eyeing various seats in the 2017 general elections in Thika Sub County have vowed to spearhead peaceful campaigns even as they woo supporters for votes.

Speaking during a security meeting organised by Thika West Sub County Deputy Commissioner Tom Anjere on Monday at sub county offices, the politicians led by Thika MP Alice Ng’ang’a said they will work with the police to ensure peaceful campaigns ahead of the 2017 polls.

The politicians vowed to put aside their personal interests and commit to ensuring a peaceful environment for elections.

“We have agreed to work together as political leaders ahead of the 2017 general elections,” said Ng’ang’a.

Ng’ang’a further said they had agreed to preach unity among locals.

She said asked aspirants eyeing seats to engage in issued based politics and shun propaganda.

“There is no need for us to publicly abuse each other and engage in propaganda,” she said.

The Thika MP further asked aspirants to shun from making statements that could trigger violence ahead of the polls.

Speaking at the meeting, Thika parliamentary seat aspirant Patrick Wainaina said it is import at for politicians t work together.

He said that peace and unity of residents should be the first priority of politicians.

“We must work together so that out people can remain united even as we approach the elections,” he said.

The meeting was attended by political aspirants eyeing various seats within Thika.

The security meeting was called last week by Thika West DCC to chart way forward for peaceful campaigns. This was after two people were allegedly killed by police stray bullets during gospel musician Muigai Wa Njoroge album launch at the Thika stadium one week ago.

The chaos are allegedly said to have been fueled by some politicians though police investigations are underway.
