The case was filed in court last year and the move follows reports that some businessmen and residents have been paying the disputed rates to the county government despite the court having suspended them pending the determination of the case on January 15.

Speaking to members of JAMOFASTAR Welfare Association at Thika Community Hall on Monday, the association's Secretary John Mwangi asked members who involve residents and businessmen drawn from Jamhuri, Ofafa and Starehe Estates to stay put.

"We still maintain that the county government ignored the public input that was agreed upon when the bill was brought for public participation. Although that is now a matter before the court, next year when we will be electing new leaders we will first have a memorandum of understanding with all those looking for elective seats promising us that they will safeguard our interests if they get elected," Njuguna said.
