Thika West Sub-county DCC Tom Anjere has asked Thika estate owners to form estate associations that will be responsible for hygiene, security and coordination of estate activities among other things.
Speaking at Thika stadium on Monday where he chaired a security meeting, Anjere also said that the associations will also play a role in ensuring that no construction activities take place on wetlands, riparian land, and public utility land.
"We are giving estate owners in Thika town two weeks to form estate associations that will be responsible for residents’ affairs like hygiene and security," said Anjere.
He noted that the associations will also be involved in data collection pertaining their estates to ensure vices like land grabbing are reduced.
"If you know who the owner of the plot next to you is, you will not keep quiet and let fraudsters sell it to unsuspecting clients. That is why the associations are needed now than ever because cases of land grabbing are on the rise in the sub-county," Anjere added.
He warned land grabbers holding fake title deeds that the law will soon catch up with them.
The DCC further said that the estate associations will help identify undeveloped lands and their owners, conduct communal clean-ups, identify sub-standard buildings among other things.
