Speaking to journalists in his office on Friday, Leitich said that many brokers camp around the registry and overcharge people coming to conduct searches or ascertain other land related issues.

"We have noted that many people are still stuck to the old mentality that land matters at the registry are complicated and therefore have to employ the services of brokers to have things done faster. It is no longer the case especially after we re-organized our files,” said Leitich.

He said that many were still paying brokers up to Sh2,000 to conduct a search for them as opposed to Sh500 if they were to do it on their own.

"It takes only three days here for you to get the certificate of the official search. Why should you then pay Sh1,500 more?" he said.

Leitich noted that others were paying agents or their advocates up to Sh3,000 for the same exercise when they can do it on their own.
