Residents of Kiganjo in Thika sub-county have been urged to embrace ‘Nyumba Kumi’ initiative and community policing programme to ensure crimes are reduced in the area.
Speaking on Wednesday morning when he met area residents in a public baraza in Kiganjo Chief’s camp, Thika sub-county Administration Police Superintendent Samuel Ombonya said that the police cannot fight crime without the help of the area residents as criminals live among them.
Ombonya said that the ‘Nyumba Kumi’ initiative has helped much in flashing out criminals in the sub-county and should be embraced by not only all the sub-counties but also the entire nation.
This comes after the Kiganjo residents gave a tip-off to the police on Tuesday, which helped to the recovery of multi-million bhang and arrest of one suspected peddler.
The police partnered with the residents and conducted a civic search in the area before apprehending one, James Mwangi Anwari who is in police custody as his fellows fled.
Following the incident, Thika west OCPD Shadrack Maithya hailed the officers for nabbing the illegal drug and for ensuring the safety of the neighbouring residents against harm by the peddlers.
He further warned the criminals operating in the sub-county that their 40 days are over and in partnership with the administration police, they are going to launch a crackdown in Kiganjo estate, calling for anyone with information to contact the authorities to curb the head of the cartel Georges ‘Kuruka’.
“We are issuing a warning to the criminals to surrender the syndicate or the cartel before the police conduct a vigilant crackdown where innocent people might get harmed in the process,” Warned Maithya.
