Thika OCPD Francis Muthamia has asked tea farmers going to Thika Town to withdraw their tea bonus money to be wary of tricksters and conmen.

Speaking to journalists in his office on Friday, the OCPD noted that the cons are targeting the farmers and elderly who are not well acquainted with the town.

Muthamia said that a number of similar con cases have been reported at the Thika Police Station.

"Conmen are aware that farmers from the tea zones are coming here to withdraw their bonus money and some have fallen to their tricks already and lost their money.

Though we are doing our best to contain the situation, we ask farmers and other members of the public to be cautious,” said Muthamia.

He urged the elderly and those not well acquainted with the town to consider asking their relatives who know the town well to accompany them.

At the same time, he discouraged the farmers and especially men against going to the pubs and brothels while carrying the money saying they are likely to lose it there or get mugged when they get drunk.
