Thika Sub-county Deputy Commissioner Jeremiah Gicheru has warned teenage girls against engaging in prostitution.
In a brief to the press at his office, Gicheru complained that many teenage girls have invaded streets of Thika town to trade in flesh.
He stated that prostitution is illegal and anyone caught engaging in it will be arrested and charged in a court of law.
“My appeal to teenage girls is to keep off the streets and concentrate on their education,” said the commissioner.
Gicheru blamed parents and guardians for failing to teach good morals to their teenage children.
He stated that most teenagers are using their free time to take part in unlawful activities.
“Parents and guardians should take responsibility of taking good care of their children as well as nurturing them in the right direction,” added the Deputy Commissioner.
On the same note, Gicheru warned young people against associating with people believed to be drug traffickers.
He said that drug abuse is among core challenges facing the sub-county, noting that it is a threat to development.
The commissioner asserted that a crackdown to get rid of drug dealers in Thika would be commissioned soon.
He also urged members of the public to provide information that will lead to the arrest of alleged drug traffickers.
