Kiambu County Public Works and roads Executive CeC Njeri Gatabaki has ordered a contractor who has been constructing footpaths in Thika town to stop.
Speaking in her office on Wednesday, Njeri said that the money to build the footpath was given by the World Bank in 2012.
“I have directed the contractor on site to leave the work because it will be in vain and it will be a waste of resources. We are starting construction of a dual carriageway of all roads within Thika town in two months’ time,” said Gatabaki.
She said that the money was given after the introduction of the devolved roads, whereby the reserved space for footpaths is set for expansions of the road network in the town.
Despite the directive by the CeC, the works in the footpaths is still in progress and paying no attention to the county governments’ directive.
Our efforts to reach the contractor failed as he refused to talk to the media.
