[Photo: Facebook]A section of Thika residents living in 'uptown' estates of Ngoingwa and Section 9 have decried increasing level of insecurity accusing it on a gang of robbers which flees on a motorcycle after terrorizing them. This follows a recent incident where a taxi driver was hacked to death by unidentified persons as he entered his compound on Wednesday morning.Francis Kariuki was waylaid by gangsters whose number is yet to be established as he opened the gate for his wife."We suspect these criminals have a hideout in some of Thika's informal settlements like Kiandutu where they plan their criminal activities before coming here to execute them," Paul Maina a Ngoingwa resident said on Wednesday.Elizabeth Wanjiru another resident accused Police and the local administration of laxity for the surging crime."That unfortunate incident that was reported in Section 9 is not the first. Even here in Ngoingwa it happens almost on a daily basis and even as we report to police and the chief's camp, nothing comes out of it. We are tired and disappointed with them," she said.Kariuki and his wife had just returned from a function at about 3.am when the attack took place. The deceased's wife, Naomi Wanjiku, said the attackers must have been waiting inside the compound as she did not see them."Kariuki got out of the car to open the gate but delayed to return. I hooted but he did not respond. I found him lying in a pool of blood.Thika OCPD Willy Simba said that they have arrested a female suspect who would help them with investigations."We really cannot tell the motive of this murder but we have one female suspect in our custody who is helping us with investigations," Simba said.
