Thika Town MCA Kennedy Mwangi has encouraged area youths to apply for the Biashara Fund and stand business ventures that will boost their livelihoods.
Addressing youths at Blue Post hotel in Thika on Thursday, Mwangi expressed concerns over the large number of youths who idle in video cinemas.
He said that youths should stop idling and take advantage of the Biashara Fund and other government funds to start businesses.
“It is unfortunate that many youths in Thika town prefer to spend their time in videos and pubs rather than take part in development,” he said.
Mwangi said that youths have an opportunity to turn their lives around through government funds.
He said that many of the youths are complaining that they have no jobs yet they fail to take advantage of the government opportunities.
Mwangi observed that the number of youths who have applied for Uwezo Fund from the ward is very low.
He said that more women and disabled persons have applied for the funds compared to youths.
Mwangi challenged the youth to start their own businesses instead of relying on white collar jobs.
Mwangi said that the economic status of the area will go up if youths apply for government funds and start employment and business ventures.
