Kenyan-born Lucy Gichuru hit headlines when she became the first woman from this nation to clinch a senatorial seat in Australia.
Little is known about Ms Gichuru despite the fact that she defied all odds to win a seat that many of politicians will die dreaming about.
The newly elected Senator hails from Nyeri County. She was born in Hiriga Village of Mathira, Nyeri County.
The mother of three attended Mugoiri Girls Secondary School before she enrolled at to University of Nairobi where she graduated with Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce after she specialized in accounting.
Before leaving for Australia in 1999, Ms Gichuru worked with different audit firms in Nairobi after applying for permanent residents in this part of the world.
The legislator has been passionate about education and other development related matters since she was in high school.
Her father, Justus Munyiri is a retired teacher. At the age of 55, Ms Gichuru has entered into the books of history for showing her leadership skills to the world.
The accountant turned politician was declared the winner after her predecessor was declared ineligible to contest in reference the 2016 elections. Ms. Gichuru has joined former US president Barack Obama among others who rose through hardships to rule in foreign nations.
