Early background
Yusuf Haji was born 1940 in Garissa District in the North Eastern Province to an ethnic Somali family.
He is a seasoned Kenyan politician and the current senator for Garissa county.
Haji is a member of The National Alliance and a coalition member of Jubilee Alliance.
He is happily married and a father to the current DPP boss.
Education Background
Haji started his education career in 1946.
After completing his Primary level, he proceeded to pursue his secondary school education in the year 1954 at KAPE British T. College and graduated in 1958.
Upon graduation, he enrolled to Kenya Institute of administration in the years 1970 to 1971 where he studied Advanced Public Administration which he advanced in the year 1982.
Later on, the veteran politician journeyed to the UK in 1981 where he pursued a Diploma in Management and Financial Control and later graduated in 1983.
Early political career
Haji started his professional career in administration and management.
Haji was a district officer in the Provincial Administration, where he served as Provincial Commissioner between 1970 and 1997.
In 1998, Haji was privileged to serve as a member of Kenyan Parliament where he was later elected as an official Member of Parliament on KANU ticket.
Ministerial positions
Haji served as Kenya’s Minister of State for Defence between 2008- 2013.
He was appointed to the position by the retired president Mwai Kibaki following the bungled election in 2007 that led to numerous loses of lives and properties.
Due to his impressive work and dedication, Haji was concurrently appointed as the minister for Internal Security and Provincial Affairs on 18 June 2012, following the untimely demise of the incumbent minister George Saitoti in a helicopter crash a few days earlier.
