Maseno University is one of the leading universities in Kenya and is situated on the border of Vihiga and Kisumu counties.
The Institution has over 10'000 students pursuing programs offered in the University campuses. It has four campuses: The main campus, Kisumu Campus, Homabay Campus and eCampus. Here are some of the things you never knew about the Institution:
1. Maseno University started in October 1990 as a constituent college of Moi University and became a full fledged University 17 years ago later in 2001. It is an accredited University enacted by an act of parliament in 1991.
2. The name Maseno was coined by Rev J.J Willis out of the name of a tree in local dialects as 'oseno' or 'oluseno' that stood next to the sport where the first missionaries in the region erected their base.
3. Maseno University owns Kisumu Hotel located in Kisumu. Kisumu Hotel was acquired by the university in 2004. The hotel has enabled the institution to offer training in Eco-tourism, Hotel and Institution management.
4. Safaricom former Chief Executive Officer Dr Michael Joseph is the Institution's Chancellor and the chair of council is Professor Rosalinda Mutua. The current vice chancellor is Professor Julius Omondi Nyakundi.
5. Maseno University has twelve schools in total. The school of Business and Economics forms the core of their curriculum.
