This is according to Chairman of the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) Commission for Education and Religious Education Rt. Rev Maurice Muhatia Makumba in a statement issued to the press at the Cathedral Church of Christ the King in Nakuru this Wednesday.

He said there is a 'third force' facilitating and inciting the burning of schools.

For this reason, the Catholic Church has appealed to the relevant government organs to thoroughly investigate the matter.

He also urged the media to be responsible in its reporting.

"That the media reports on school fires , while performing a critical function of informing citizens could be triggering peer responses and hence more schools being burnt," he said.

The statement has been issued a day after Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i stated that 68 schools have been burnt down this year.
