Nyali MP Hezron Awiti is not a poor man.
However, his journey to becoming a millionaire has not been easy.
Awiti recalls selling eggs and doing odd jobs to make ends meet.
In an interview with the Standard, Awiti said he held his first million cheque when he was 35 years old.
“I have made millions in the course of my deals but I remember holding my first million shilling cheque when I was 35 years old,” he said.
The Mombasa gubernatorial aspirant said he had been in business for several years before deciding to join politics.
The fearless and charismatic leader started off his career as a junior clerk. During the same time, he started engaging in side hustles.
He said he used to buy eggs at a shilling in order to make a profit of 50 cents.
“I have been in business for a long time, starting off as a junior clerk and engaging in a side hustle. I realised if I bought eggs at a shilling, I could make an extra 50 cents,” he added.
To increase his income, the MP opted to loan some cash to his colleagues so as to gain interest at the end of the month.
He said exercising perseverance enabled him to establish his business.
