Omar said he has nothing personal against the governor, and he was simply carrying out his oversight role by raising alarm whenever something goes wrong in the county.

Addressing journalists at a Mombasa hotel on Thursday, Omar said unlike other senators, he has a background in human activism, which explains his vocal nature.

“Joho and I are not political enemies, just opponents. You will be surprised today if I had a problem it is the governor who will be the first to come to my rescue and vice versa. It should not be seen like we are enemies because I believe Joho who is a brother of mine, can never allow my children to sleep hungry,” said Omar.

Omar has declared interest in the governor's seat, a move that has sparked a lot of friction between the two leaders, with Omar accusing Joho of under performing in his mandate as the governor.

However, the senator has urged politicians in the county to practice responsible and mature politics, by not dividing people on a tribal basis.

He said Mombasa is a cosmopolitan town which harbours both Coastal and non-coastal communities.

"Let us all live in this county as brothers and sisters because their is enough space for all of us,” said Omar.
