Uasin Gishu Deputy Governor Daniel Chemno has revealed that more subsidized fertilizers will be availed at the Eldoret depot before next week.
This is after holding a meeting with National Cereal and Produce Board (NCPB) officials on Wednesday in Nairobi.
Speaking during a live talk show at a local radio station, Chemno said the county government will also provide subsidized certified seeds for farmers.
"In every one kilogram of the seeds, we will pay Sh30 for the farmer. The county will also offer transportation to the farmers who are in cooperatives," he added.
Chemno while responding to the issues of delay of the farm input said the long-lasting solution is to have the Agriculture sector fully be devolved so as to allow the county to handle the subsidized fertilizers.
"We have the structures in place to the village level to handle fertilizer distribution to farmers," said the Deputy County boss.
He also urged the national government to speed up the process of gazetting the fertilizer guidelines act which he said would speed up distribution of the commodity to avoid the further delays in future.
Chemno further said to end the cartel menace there is a need for the ministry to capture data for all farmers and the number of acreages so that the government will know the requirement of every farmer and the number of fertilizer needed.
