A senator from the North Rift has promised that the region will honour the late Catholic archbishop Cornelius Korir.
Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei said on Tuesday that residents of the region had agreed to observe tranquility and peaceful coexistence with their neighbors as a way of giving a befitting send off to the man who has been described as a pillar of peace in the country.
"The demise of Bishop Korir is a major setback to us as a country especially at this time when we have just come from a very divisive election. However, we here in the North Rift have agreed to observe peace as a way of honoring him and what he stood for," he said.
Korir who was hitherto the Eldoret Diocese archbishop passed away on Monday in Eldoret after a short illness.
Cherargie also called upon the opposition coalition Nasa to act with restraint and not to incite its supporters to cause chaos in the country.
He was speaking in Eldoret town.
