Youth in Kisii area Kiambu county have embraced the selling of secondhand house hold items which they say is enabling them to earn a living.
Speaking to one of them in their small stores in the area on Saturday, where they are selling second hand sofa seats, electronics and beds, Julias Kioko who is the chairperson of the team said that the demand for these second hand items had increased leading to good prices.
Kioko said that lack of capital to buy new modern items led them to come up with the idea.
The young men have been able to earn a living and raise up their families without much struggle.
"Due to luck, we found an opportunity. Since we couldn't raise enough money even for three modern televisions and we decided to explore the next best alternative. That is how we started this business six months ago ago," said Kioko.
Apart from second hand goods, the youths say they are also involved in repairing seats and tables among others.
"We have a ready market in Makongeni market and other parts of Thika town where we sell to locals and business people," said another youth who challenged fellow young men and women to "try the impossible."
