Opposition Cord has once again laid claims that the Jubilee Party is planning to rig the 2017 general election.
Tuesday, Cord leaders alleged that Deputy President William Ruto and ICT Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru were laying ground in secret meetings to manipulate the poll results.
Senators Johnson Muthama (Machakos), James Orengo (Siaya) and Tongaren MP Eseli Simiyu claimed Ruto and CS Mucheru were secretly meeting top IEBC officials to plan how to rig the polls.
They further alleged that the government was planning how to obstruct implementation of the passed electoral laws.
The allegations came after DP Ruto accused Cord of planning chaos during the general election.
“We are informed Jubilee is opposed to the appointment to the commission of Kenyans who are patriotic and progressive and have a background and history of fighting for reform and change in Kenya,” said Cord in a statement.
“Even before the ink is dry on the new election laws, there is an attempt to amend the statute and draft proposals have been sent to the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee of the National Assembly.”
Ruto however, through his spokesman David Mugonyi, dismissed the allegations as baseless and unfounded.
“Cord is trying to build a narrative around rigging to justify the violence they are preparing. Cord should submit itself to the election process and mobilise support in a civil manner, devoid of threats, intimidation and coercion. This is what democrats do,” he said.
