Many people hear of Kibera and the first thing that comes to their mind is... yes, that!
TO me Kibera is something dearer to me than any other place.
It is the hood that raised me. It made me who I am today.
There were days my single mom could never put food on the table. There were days the landlord would come knocking almost every morning before we went to school. There were those days when nothing seemed to move at all. When life stagnated.
I am proud of those days. They taught me the meaning of patience and facing your problems head on.
I schooled at Makina Primary School then moved to Mombasa's Sheikh Khalifa Secondary School after mum remarried and we had to relocate.
After college, however, it was time to go back home. There was no way I could stay away from the childhood memories.
To me, Kibera remains that heaven on earth that I cannot leave behind.
Kibera is home!
