Mombasa governor hopeful Hassan Omar says he’s best suited to head the county because he’s a man of integrity.
If elected county boss in the upcoming August 8 polls, Omar has promised to ensure accountability and that every penny counts. He said his administration will emphasis on civic engagement, develop a blue print for socio-economic progress as well as ensure it sets right its priorities for the county.“We’ll lay the foundation for the Mombasa we want,” said the Wiper candidate Friday as quoted by the Nation.Among the issues the aspirant plans to do include; re-organising the county Public Service Board as well as promoting public participation when engaging with the central government.“We will go to the people and ask them what they want. We will form a citizens’ forum that will be called Baraza la Wananchi to engage the county government," he added. The Senator said his administration will promote devolution, integrity, servant leadership and public participation.“We believe that public participation is not possible without ensuring access to information including enacting a county-centric access to information,” he said during the launch of his manifesto at Bandari College.Omar further noted that he will form a commission of inquiry to probe the illegal allocation and acquisition of property in the county. The Wiper secretary general promised to prosecute individuals who illegally acquired houses and land and ensure the property is returned to the rightful owners.Health, education, security, infrastructure, housing and waste management are some of the issues he seeks to address if he becomes county boss.“I promise to provide a vibrant Mombasa economy based on manufacturing, services, transport, hotels, tourism, agriculture and small scale businesses,” he said.
