I don’t speak with President Uhuru Kenyatta, just like many other Kenyans, Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua has said.
Karua who has been working closely with the Opposition since 2013 polls said her relationship with the President is like that with other Kenyans.
“My relationship with him (Uhuru) is like that with other Kenyans. We have no differences, but we don’t speak regularly. You only talk to close friends, you can’t speak with everyone, but when we meet we relate well,” Karua said on Citizen TV, Sunday.
She slammed Uhuru’s Jubilee party for allegedly luring parties to join the recently announced Jubilee merger.
“They are trying to hinder multipartyism which is enshrined in the Constitution. They cannot tell Narc Kenya to fold and join Jubilee,” she said.
Uhuru last week announced that 12 parties had agreed to fold and join the Jubilee Party.
The 2013 presidential candidate also said her party has not held discussions with another party to work together in readiness for 2017 general election.
She however said Narc Kenya was working closely with Opposition Cord.
“We have not held discussions with any other party, but as an Opposition party, we are working together with other parties,” she said.
The former Gichugu MP also said she is in a good working relationship with Cord leader Raila Odinga.
On new IEBC commissioners, the former Justice Minister said the committee that will select the next polls chiefs must adhere to the two-thirds gender principle.
Karua strongly criticised the IEBC for standardizing campaign funds for political parties and individual aspirants, saying the next elections will not be free and fair if politicians spend more than they earn in campaigns.
“The elections will not be free and fair if we allow parties to spend that much in campaigns (Sh15 billion), Kenyans should be consulted on that,” she said.
She also maintained that she will be vying for President come 2017.
