The National Police Service(NPS) has released the mastermind behind Friday's early morning terror attack in which five police officers lost their lives while on duty in Mandera County.
The NPS has said that Jamaa Nah Abdile who managed to escape after the attack on Fino police station and an administration Police camp was the ringleader of Al Shabaab militia who committed the murder.
According to a press statement sent to newsrooms on Friday evening by the Service, an unknown number of the militants also died as a result of heavy gunfire between the attackers and the police.
The statement noted that a Safaricom mast was first destroyed by the militants so as to prevent communication.
"We have identified the leader as Jamaa Nah Abdile who escaped shortly after the attack.Five police officers were died as a result of the ambush," read the statement.
The attack comes barely a few days after teacher unions advocate for the removal of teachers who are not locals in such areas so that they do not risk being targeted by the terror group.
This followed an attack of a primary school in the region where three teachers were shot dead by members believed are from Al Shabaab.
However, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i has since assured residents that all will be done to ensure security is beefed up in the region.
