After the government on Tuesday reiterated it would not relent on the plastic ban policy, Kenyans have been left with no choices but to look for alternative items in the market.

This is after tough punishments were spelt out for anyone found using banned plastic commodities.

According to the general penalty declared under the Environment Manufacturers and Co-ordination Act, those found culpable risk a jail term of not less than one year or a fine of at least Sh2 million.

On the extremes, the jail term should not go beyond four years and the fine should be not more than Sh4 million.

The ban will be in line with the importation, use and manufacture of plastics.

Kenyans will now have to work with alternatives including bags made from paper, sisal, papyrus, cloth, and gunny bags.
