COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli has pointed at what he terms as President Uhuru Kenyatta’s biggest undoing.
Speaking to Jeff Koinange on Citizen TV on Wednesday, Atwoli said President Kenyatta’s biggest mistake is ignoring the counsel of learned and experienced advisors and instead of following the advice of his close friends and age mates.“There are people like Joseph Kinyua (Head of Public Service) and Kinuthia Mbugua (Statehouse Comptroller) and others who can advise the president on crucial matters, but he seems to be taking advice from his age mates and friends,” said Atwoli. He faulted President Kenyatta for allowing the political discordance in the country to stretch, saying the country may fall into a state of political unrest should he allow the disgruntlement to grow.“If Uhuru had driven to Karen to have a one-on-one meeting with NASA leader Raila Odinga, we would not have been here in the first place,” he said.“Some of the issues been raised by Raila, like electoral injustices and reforms in the police service can easily be resolved through dialogue," he added. The COTU boss added that while President Kenyatta is a humble and reasonable mind, it is the advisors around him that are allegedly prompting him to make ill-advised decisions. He also offered to give the President “free advice” if he is called upon, owing to his supposedly rich experience in national and international political affairs.“It is difficult to get to the President because the same people who are misadvising him cannot allow you to see him,” said Atwoli.“Uhuru will only realise he is being misadvised when it is too late. He should call me for advice,” he added.
