A group of Kalenjin elders from North rift has urged President Uhuru Kenyatta and the NASA leader Raila Odinga to conduct peace campaigns across the country after they recently agreed to work together.
Led by retired Major John Seii, the elders said this will help in the healing and unifying the nation which was badly divided due to the hotly contested presidential elections.
"On behalf of Kalenjin elders we applaud and fully support the move by the two leaders coming together since it will bring peace and end the electioneering period. We were taken by surprise by the two leaders accepting to talk, we urge Kenyans of good will to fully support them," said retired major Seii in Eldoret town, Monday.
"We now urge them to conduct joint peaceful campaigns across the country for Kenyans to work together as brothers and sister and forget what transpired in the hotly contested presidential elections and move forward. If people forgive each other and work together there will be development,” added Seii.
The elders, however, warned elected leaders against involving themselves in politics but instead focus on development activities that will improve the livelihoods of the electorates.
"Political leaders should now concentrate on development and wait for 2022 where they will go back to the political field but as for now let's concentrate on development," said Seii.
