When he rose to speak during the wedding ceremony conducted on December 2, 1989 at the Holy Family Basillica in Nairobi, Moi lauded the young Kenyatta for talking the bold step, which he noted would help him in his pursuit for success.

"Nafurahi kijana sasa atakua na boma yake ndio ajue kumenyana na wanaume wengine. (I'm happy the young man now has his own homestead and will learn to fight it out there with other men)" Moi said as quoted by the Daily Nation.

A few months after the former Head of State made the remarks, Uhuru ventured into the politics and 24 years later he conquered all men to occupy the highest seat in the country.

But Uhuru's journey of 'kumenyana  na wanaume' has not been easy, he had to suffer two election defeats before finally rising to the presidency at the age of 52.

During the 1997 general election he failed to capture the Gatundu South parliamentary seat, a position once held by his father the founding President Mzee Jomo Kenyatta.

Again in 2002 the son of Jomo was floored by Mwai Kibaki in his bid to take over from his political mentor, Daniel Moi as the Head of State.

It is in 2013 when Uhuru finally pressed the right button which opened doors to State House for him.

With Deputy President William Ruto as his running mate, the duo rolled out a well-oiled political machinery which ensured Raila Odinga and his deputy Kalonzo Musyoka did not occupy the house on the hill.

He once again defeated Raila in the disputed 2017 polls to serve his second and final term.

Still in his journey of 'kumenyana na wanaume', Uhuru had to triumph over serious cases at the International Criminal Court (ICC) where he was charged for mass killings, rape among other charges.

Former Laikipia Senator the late GG Kariuki, speaking to a Nation reporter, observed that it has been political wrestling all the way for the son of Jomo.

"I have been in this Parliament when all four Kenyan Presidents were sworn in and can tell you Uhuru is the one worked hardest to be where he is!" Kariuki said when Uhuru was sworn in the Head of State in 2013.
