Kuria said he will use his position as the vice-chairperson of National Assembly Roads Committee to lobby for each of Luo Nyanza counties; Kisumu, Migori, Homa Bay and Siaya to get a new road.

This will be to demonstrate Jubilee government's commitment to the welfare of area residents following the recent handshake between President Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga, the MP noted.

"I will use my post in the committee to ensure roads in Nyanza counties are tarmacked to demonstrate commitment to the truce," Kuria said.

Under the instructions of Odinga, Luo Nyanza residents did not participate in last year's October 26 presidential election in which Kenyatta was declared validly elected.

Odinga's supporters had vowed not to recognize Kenyatta's presidency but they changed their stand last month after the former Prime Minister reconciled with the President.

Kuria, who has been one of Odinga's fiercest critics, urged Kenyans to put their differences aside and support Kenyatta and Odinga in steering the country forward to development.

"Time for politics is over. It has been overtaken by events and now our main focus should be on growing our economy," he said.

Kuria made the remarks on Saturday during a fundraiser at Odienya Seventh Day Adventist Church in Kochia, Rangwe constituency in Homa Bay.
