Nairobians are both a happy and unhappy lot after TV signals were switched off ahead of the swearing-in of NASA leaders Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka.

Taking to social media to vent their emotions, NASA-leaning users faulted the government for being behind the blackout because of extreme fear for the opposition.

"Shithole leadership...a government always in denial, fearing the citizens getting enlightened," Facebook user Godwin Waliama said.

George Musamali, another user, said that the switching off was a bad miscalculation from the government.

"My opinion misinformation is a serious threat to security. TVs have been shut down and a big chunk of NRM supports left in the dark on the happenings. Imagine just imagine what will happen if someone started a rumor that one of the NASA principals has been arrested," he said.

On Twitter, Amedo Said said:

"Those people who are happy that the "unpatriotic media" houses are shut down will have nowhere to run when they become victims and their last hope is the media to bring their woes to the attention of the relevant authorities and general audience."

Felo Lukiri wrote:

"If you want to restrict people from seeing something...that is when they try harder to see it...The Govt Should know that by now."

However, others read positives from the shutdown and said it was better for it helped the country avert mayhem.

Saina Peter said: "Security and peace is extremly paramount.no need to instigate violence through media."

Edwin Waweru said the media did not add any value to Kenyans' lives and that there was no reason to protest over the shutdown.

"Reason it's referred to as GITHERI media. Anyway what difference does NTV, Citizen TV and Radio noise buzzing help? Instead of highlighting grave issues, they are running betting adverts," he said.
