United States-based law lecturer Makau Mutua is optimistic that the much-hyped National Super Alliance (NASA) will defeat Jubilee administration in the forthcoming polls.
However, the controversial scholar said for the Opposition leaders to oust President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto, they must do the following.
First, the professor said, NASA should not go into the August elections alone.
"They need to create a number-proof super alliance by combining forces with rebels within Jubilee. They should bring on board Kanu and rebel governors Issac Ruto (Bomet) and his Meru counterpart Peter Munya," Mutua noted in his column in The Daily Nation.
He said this super alliance will create an impregnable wall that should decimate Jubilee. Secondly, in order to defeat Jubilee, the principals in NASA must find a way to deal with their competing egos.
"They must decide whether they hate each other more than they hate Jubilee and whether they want to remain in political Siberia for another five to 10 years," urged Mutua.
He added: 'If they let their egos get in the way, Jubilee will destroy them and laugh all the way to re-election."
Lastly the outspoken lecturer said that the Opposition chiefs must seek support of the civil society.
"The super alliance must come up with a credible reform platform that they will implement if they come to power to be backed by the civil society," he added. Mutua warned that NASA will not get the support of civil society without committing to fully implement the principles of the 2010 Constitution.
