Former Mombasa senator Hassan Omar has thanked Deputy President William Ruto for the active role he played in mentoring him into politics.

Speaking at a Jubilee rally in Mombasa where he publicly joined the movement to re-elect President Uhuru Kenyatta, Omar said that he has always had a personal relationship with the DP for a long time.

The former senator said Ruto had nurtured him from the time he was a college student in Moi University.He added that his personal ties with Ruto saw the DP become the first person to give him a call after he suffered in the Mombasa senator race.

"The first person to call me, because I've always had a personal relationship with him and our politics aren't different... he mentored us when we were in Eldoret... we talk with him wherever we see a problem; he was William Ruto," he said.
