Mathare MP Steve Kariuki has revealed why he ditched the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party in favour of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee Party.
According to Kariuki his decision to quit ODM was based on party policies, structures and its general agenda.
The MP claims that ODM has no respect for individual ideas.
Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV on Tuesday, Kariuki accused ODM top leadership of frustrating individual opinion in the party.
“In ODM there is no individual space for one to express issues,” he claimed.
The MP also claimed that the policies of the party are drawn by powerful individuals who don’t accept consultations.
“There is much sycophancy in ODM and that is why I quit the party,” he said.
The Mathare lawmaker indicated that he has no regrets for quitting the Orange party.
“I consulted Mathare people who advised me to quit and join Jubilee party,” he said.
The MP stated that he is ready to resign and go for re-election if need be.
He dismissed the show cause letter issued by ODM on defectors saying that he will not reply to it.
The Mathare lawmaker who was elected an ODM ticket ditched the Raila Odinga-led party and joined the newly launched JP.
His decision to quit ODM has been cited as political suicide since Mathare is said to be an ODM stronghold and that the MP might not recapture the seat on a JP ticket in 2017.
