Just like any other lady in Kenya, I frequently visit salons just to make my hair look good.
Perhaps it is due to the adage that a woman’s hair is her crowning glory.
However, I have vowed to look for a hair dresser who will do my hair at home due to the many unpleasant encounters and experiences I have in Nakuru salons. These are the salons that are situated in the outskirts of Nakuru with prices that are pocket friendly.
Perhaps it is due to this factor that the hair dressers in these salons feel they can get away with just about anything.
This is where annoying habits display themselves with gossip being top of the agenda of these hair dressers.
As a lady who has been to a couple of salons in Nakuru, I have learnt about issues that are none of my business through gossip. This is because the hair dressers feel free to discuss people’s business e.g. a couple who fought in their neighbourhood and worst still, about a customer who just left a few minutes ago. Most of what is said is negative even though they pretend she is their best friend.
They may even go ahead to discuss how the poor customer looks weird in a hairstyle that they just deed after lying to her that she looks amazing.
In addition, some hair dressers don't observe the first-come-first-served policy. This is mostly the case when you are being braided.
The hair dresser will not hesitate to leave you to attend to a customer who wants her hair blow dried. In most of these cases, they do not even bother to ask you if its okay by you as they assume that you will be comfortable with it.
On the other hand, some hair dressers feel the urge to talk to you in their mother tongue or to discuss issues in their dialect, an act which is quite insensitive.
This is because if you are not from that community, you may feel uneasy and wishing that you had sought the services of another salon.
Other than that, one may want to have some quiete time while in the salon and not someone biting off your ear with conversations that do not make sense.
Another disturbing behaviour is when other people who are friends of the hair dresser come to help finish plaiting your braids.
In such cases, a total of five ladies from nowhere may come to assist make that work easier.
The problem is, all of them may be pulling your hair in different directions, thus making you have headache.
I think it is high time that hair dresser in Nakuru, and especially those who work in the outskirts of Nakuru style up.
