A village in Busia County is in shock after the discovery that a man has been married to a mother and her daughter.
He has defied the local beliefs of not being too greedy to the extent of feasting on a hen, chicks and the eggs.
Fidelis Okochi, the man who has caused an uproar in this part of Western Kenya, is a renowned herbalist and farmer. The man amazed the villagers when he confessed that he is not sure about who between the two he loves most.
Jane Rosa Akinyi, 64, is the mother while her daughter Linet Awino is 22 years old.
He said, “I married Linet’s widowed mother Akinyi and lived with her for over eight years after I left the city.”
Okochi states that he is not sure about how and who he can divorce of his two lovebirds.
“Linet came the other day from the city, and we only lived together for six months, until she left a few weeks ago after my area chief and elders advised against our union. But were it that Akinyi was not her real mother, I would have deposited something to the first woman’s home, and then pay the full dowry to the second woman’s home,” said Okochi.
Okochi met Awino in 2007 in Nairobi then the following year he was blessed with Akinyi after moving to the village. Awino was shocked to find her mother "swimming in her former pool" when she visited the village.
The mother was mad and dumped Okochi after cursing their union saying that they will remain childless.
She said that many people suspected Okochi's close relationship with her daughter. However, Awino has vowed to stick with her lover despite the pronounced curse.
On the other hand, the villagers demand that he also divorce the daughter so that it can rain in Funyula.
George Ochieng said, “His act is the reason why it is no longer raining favourably in entire Funyula constituency.”
