Giving your phone to a stranger to use, even for a few minutes, may land you in jail for six months or in court facing a fine of up to 100,000 shillings.
This could happen if your phone or phone number is used to commit a crime.
The Communications Authority of Kenya this week issued this and other directives requiring all SIM cards to be duly registered, in an effort to curb misuse of mobile phones during the election season.
"This should not happen even when a stranger is in distress," The Authority said in the directive issued through local dailies.
Other offenses that attract a similar punishment include buying a SIM card from hawkers or failing to report a lost card at a police station.
CA Director General, Francis Wangusi also required users to notify their service providers of any changes in their details as soon as possible.
