Do you smell differently down there after sex? Well, don’t be worried as this is perfectly normal. Some odour after sex makes sense as sex involves several aerobic activities including fluid secretion and sweat from the two partners.
However, when this odour exceeds its limits, this could mean you have an underlying medical issue.
According to a Health’s medical editor, Roshini Rajapaksa, MD, an assistant professor of medicine at the NYU School of Medicine, a fish-like smell in a woman could mean she has a condition known as bacterial vaginosis (BV).
This condition occurs due to an overgrowth of certain bacteria in the vagina. Unfortunately, many women with this condition don’t show any symptoms.
According to Roshini Rajapaksa, women with this condition will experience pain, a thin white discharge, itching and a fishy odor after having sex.
Roshini further notes that some women will have a foul odor from down there as a result of some STDs such as trichomoniasis.
An odor smell after sex is normal, however, when this smell is too much, a woman is advised to see an ob-gyn, who will check the condition and prescribe antibiotics for that condition.
