Nominated Member of Parliament, Isaac Mwaura, who lost in the Jubilee nominations has disclosed that he spent Sh29 million in his campaigns.
Mwaura was vying for the Ruiru parliamentary seat but lost to his rival Simon King’ara who garnered 10,900 votes against his 4,632.
He was nominated to the National Assembly on an ODM ticket but later defected to president Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee party.
The legislator made the revelations, during an interview at Citizen TV, Tuesday, adding that elections could not be won with empty hands.
“Running for office is very expensive in this country,” Mwaura said.
“I will not lie to Kenyans, by the end of last year, I had spent about Sh20 million,” the lawmaker added.
Mwaura said most of his money was used in good kind. He also noted that his challengers might have used more money than him despite them being on the ground for a long time as compared to him.
“My competitors may have used even more,” he said.
