President Uhuru Kenyatta has given a promise to all Kenyans who were displaced during the 2007 post-election violence, saying they will be compensated and resettled.
Speaking during the last day of his Gusiiland tour, Kenyatta also sought to assure Kenyans that there will be no repeat of the post-election chaos.
He also gave out Sh828 million to integrated IDPs in the region, a welcoming relief to the affected.
The relief comes nearly a decade since they were displaced, even though the compensation was not enough, according to the locals.
According to the statistics, there are more than 22,000 families that were displaced, meaning each family will take home less than Sh40,000.
During the violence that saw over 1,000 people killed and hundreds of thousands displaced, will be remembered as the darkest period to have hit the country.
It happened after a disputed election that involved the then president Mwai Kibaki and opposition leader Raila Odinga.
President Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto were among six Kenyans who were charged at the International Criminal Court in The Hague, Netherlands, for crimes against humanity following the violence.
