Three people from Kaibere village, Gatundu North are nursing their lives in Igegania level four hospital after a reported outbreak of Cholera disease.

The hospital superintendent Ann Murugi has confirmed that the disease, which was first reported on June 20, 2015 could be as a result of poor sanitation and consumption of affected water.

Murugi said that three patients were admitted at Igegania level four hospital facility suffering from the disease. She revealed that their condition was not critical adding that medics were doing everything possible to save their lives.

The doctor pointed out that the disease was concentrated in Kaibere, Ituramiro and Kianja villages in Chania and Githobokoni wards respectively and is likely to spread if urgent actions are not put in place to apprehend the situation.

"The first three cases of cholera are in the process of being diagnosed with medics doing everything possible to save the affected lives. I call on the residents in the pretentious areas to ensure that they drink clean water and eat well cooked food. There is need for the residents to maintain high standards of hygiene as the cholera virus thrives in a dirty environment," she added.

She stressed on the need to use latrines and always wash hands with soap as a measure to contain the disease.

The medic said cholera has an incubation period of twenty one days, and that medics are keeping track of all persons who have been in contact with the affected to ensure that the killer disease does not spread.
