Police in Nairobi have arrested three people who were allegedly ferrying bhang worth Sh2.3 million.
The three were driving a probox car and are said to have sourced the green substance from Nakuru and were ferrying it Nairobi’s Embakasi area where it would be sold from.
Nairobi Police Commander Japheth Koome said on Friday police are also in pursuit of another group that was transporting bhang that dodged a police roadblock in Kinungi area near Limuru after a tip-off.
They were also driving towards Nairobi.
The group that managed to escape, he said, is ferrying bhang of unknown value.
Bhang consumption in Nairobi has been on the rise over the past few years and some of the leading areas in consumption include Kibera, Kawangware, suburbs in Eastlands, Mathare as well as areas surrounding Mlolongo.
Koome said authorities in the city are in talks with those in Nakuru, Kisumu, Busia and Kakamega where most of the bhang consumed in Nairobi comes from.
He said police will not relent in their quest to end the sale and consumption of the substance in Nairobi.
