Police officers in Changamwe, Mombasa County, have arrested three men after they were found in possession of bhang worth thousands of shillings.
According to police, the three suspects were arrested following a tip-off from members of the public.
Confirming the incident, Changamwe acting police boss Anthony Shimoli said the suspects who are in police custody, were arrested in Bokole area.
According to Baraka FM, police have identified the three as Malachi Odongo, Joseph Mungeni and John Ochieng.
Shimoli said officers on patrol tried to stop the vehicle they were travelling in, a toyota axio, but the driver sped off prompting the police to pursue them.
Mr Shimoli said the suspects were nabbed in possession of four bags of bhang worth Sh500,000 adding that investigations into the matter have been launched.
“We are liasing with anti-narcotics officers whom we have already contacted are coming to verify the drugs. We want to thank our officers for their quick action in arresting the suspects,” said Shimoli.
Mr Shimoli said the three suspects are being detained at Changamwe Police Station and will be arraigned in court once investigations are complete.
